Christmas is one of the most festive times of the year at Palace Resorts and one of the reasons our cherished guests and members come back again and again. Twinkling lights wink from the trees. Decorations glisten in the lobby and throughout each resort. Our renowned chefs create holiday-themed cuisine from around the world and best of all—Moon Palace Cancun opens its famous Christmas Village, a popular festive experience which is made by Palace especially for you.
The beating heart of our Christmas Village is the gorgeous Christmas tree made of LED lights which comes to life in the evening and can even project images of people. Guests are invited to visit Santa’s grotto and The Grinch—who curiously gets asks for more photos than Father Christmas—by stepping inside the tree itself.
The traditional tree lighting generally takes place on December 1st with its own magical ceremony, music, videos, and more. If you are visiting us on these dates, keep your eyes open for the Christmas bauble who is trying to find its way back to the top of the tree…
Christmas Village Fun Fact 1: Our huge Christmas tree was designed to survive the tropical weather and takes around a week to set up. Before it was made of LED lights it used to take a month!
The Christmas Village at Moon Palace Cancun has now become so popular with guests that it is literally an experience we simply cannot not open! This brings the exciting challenge of surprising visitors every year with original activities and a novel appearance by Santa on Christmas Eve! Up until now, the jolly red giant has been known to parachute into the Christmas Village, and even turn up in a Ferrari. One thing is for sure though, his arrival is always accompanied by amazing firework displays. Plus, he always greets every single child and gives them a Christmas gift.
In true Christmas style, a miniature train also takes kids on a grand adventure through the village. (Don’t worry, adults can climb aboard, too.)
Christmas Village Fun Fact 2: This year’s village offers loads of festive photo ops with a brand-new Christmas selfie museum, huge sand sculpture, and more.
The Christmas Village would not be possible if not for the top-notch teamwork and collaboration among different departments. Director of Entertainment, Riccardo Ruggeri starts by putting ideas on the drawing board six months before the village opens, and the incredible design team led by Alejandra Cabrera turns his visual ideas into a festive reality. The enormous tree is later lovingly decorated by hand by the amazing maintenance and public areas teams, with a special shout out to the amazing Doña Angy and Dalila.
And not to forget the expert hands and taste buds of Chef Marco Cazeres, the culinary master behind the traditional holiday candy and festive treats guests can find in the village.
Christmas Village Fun Fact 3: Santa, the Grinch, and all the other festive characters who entertain us in the village need to audition for their roles and go through a strict casting process.
So, if you haven’t already experienced our Christmas Village in Cancun, what are you waiting for? The Moon Palace Cancun - Sunrise section car park becomes transformed as of November 18 this year, and guests staying at Palace Resorts properties in Cancun and the Riviera Maya are welcome to enjoy this “happy place” every day from 7pm – 10pm until December 30.
